OpenAI launched a program called ChatGPT for Small Business on 21 July1. It bundles four things together: guides, virtual training, a partner network, and in-person academies. Three of those four work from the UK. The fourth, the actual hands-on academies, is US cities only, and OpenAI hasn't said whether that changes.
What's in it
The virtual training runs as a set of product-specific webinars, with live demos and sample prompts covering accounting, marketing and ecommerce. The self-paced resources are getting-started guides, customer stories and short videos, meant to be uploaded straight into ChatGPT Work. The partner network plugs ChatGPT Work into tools you're probably already running: Dropbox, Shopify, Intuit, Slack, Atlassian and Wix, alongside a set of prebuilt agents. And the in-person academies3 put small business owners in a room with OpenAI staff to build a working setup in a day, in cities across the US.
AI Fit Session
Not sure where to start? Over 1 week and three 60-minute 1-to-1 sessions, we map your business, find the quick wins, and build a practical starting point specific to you.
AI Foundations
Eight weeks, one coaching session a week, seven recorded modules. By the end you'll have AI working across real areas of your business and a 90-day plan to keep building.
AI Growth
Already using AI but want to keep developing it? Each month we work on real tasks from your business together, refining what's in place and building what's next.
The part you can't get from here
That last piece is the one getting most of the coverage, and it's the one you can't book. There's no UK date, no UK city, and nothing in the announcement suggesting one is coming. If you were hoping for the hands-on version, it isn't on offer yet.
What's actually usable from the UK
- The virtual training webinars, run online with no geography attached.
- The self-paced guides, customer stories and short videos.
- The partner integrations, if you already use Dropbox, Shopify, Intuit, Slack, Atlassian or Wix alongside ChatGPT Work.
- The sign-up form at openai.com/leads/small-business2, to register interest as more of the programme rolls out.
Is ChatGPT Work worth the look
ChatGPT Work itself launched less than a fortnight before this program, on 9 July. It's OpenAI's agentic workspace product: it connects ChatGPT to Slack, Gmail, Google Drive and more than 60 other apps, and it can run multi-step tasks, drafting a set of communications or pulling together a summary of customer reviews, rather than answering one prompt at a time. It's included on paid ChatGPT plans, Plus and above, not the free tier. The workflow stats OpenAI is citing in the announcement, most participants building something useful in a day, are from last year's in-person US sessions, not from this specific product.
